Continuous heavy duty
A 33 tonne class machine is specified for programmes rather than jobs. At this size the mobilisation cost is high enough that it only makes sense when the machine will stay on site long enough to amortise it — typically a season or more of continuous work.
Where it fits
Major desilting programmes, large reclamation schemes, long-duration dredging contracts and heavy channel construction. Usually with an extended front, because at this scale the working areas are large enough that reach matters as much as capacity.
Logistics dominate the decision
Transport is unambiguously a dismantled operation with multiple loads and crane time at both ends. Beyond that, the assembly point has to be chosen carefully: the machine must reach its working area under its own power after assembly, and that route across soft ground needs checking before the crane is booked, not after.
Demobilisation deserves the same planning. The site at the end of a season is not the site the machine drove into, and the exit route may no longer exist.
Running cost profile
Over a multi-season deployment, undercarriage consumption becomes one of the largest single line items — larger, frequently, than fuel. Holding fast-moving wear parts on site is not optional at this scale; freight time on a single component can idle a machine for weeks on a remote project.
